Developing Community
Developing Community in Our Role As A Yoga Teacher or Therapist
Let’s look at the following quote:
“Perry (2006) suggests that the classroom is sometimes the most consistent and stable place in a trauma-affected student’s world and must be seen as a therapeutic milieu wherein the structured environment itself is the most consistent and effective intervention.” (Brunzell, 2016, p. 220)
• What is this quote saying about your responsibilities as a teacher?
• Do you agree with this sentiment?
• Is this part of your responsibility? Part of your “job description”?
As we move through this course, we hope that you will develop an understanding of the complexity and multi-layered nature of your position within the classroom. Some of the course material will be repeated for the purpose of re-visiting discussions and seeing how our understanding has grown over time. The repetition is also intentional to develop a deeper understanding of how interconnected our job is.
